Feelings

Dear Diary,
What a day has it been! I feel like I am in a trance and it's been
like this all day. I woke up quite late this morning. Yesterday's party
at Tantra was fabulous and I went to bed only at three thirty am. Both
mom and dad left for office without disturbing me and it was my dog
Woof who woke me up. Woof gets kind of uneasy if everyone is not up by
nine in the morning. How he knows the time I do not know but he can be
very punctual. When I felt his terrible dog breath all over my face I
had no better way to restrain him than to get up. I rubbed my eyes and
looked at the clock. It was ten minutes to nine. And it was then that
the phone rang. My cell phone was in my wardrobe drawer. I rushed to
the wardrobe, nearly broke it open and after some struggle found the
phone. The number from which the call was being made was not entirely
familiar. 'Hello', the voice said, 'Am I speaking to Melissa?'. I was
not sure as to how I should react. In the most stentorian voice I could
assume, I replied, ' Your guess is entirely correct.' And that's how an
enchanting conversation started. The person on the other phone was
Andy. Andy is Minnie's cousin and he lives in Bombay. He had seen me
during Minnie's birthday party. He said that he wanted to talk to me
then itself but had to leave on urgent work. He had come to Calcutta
yesterday on some business and was required to leave today evening. He
had made the call to ask me out for the remainder of the day. I must
let Minnie know that she can't give my cell number to just anyone who
asks for it. I mean this Andy character could be a shady type.
How wrong I was. I met Andy in the coffee shop at the Sheraton. I drove
to the hotel dressed in dark blue. Andy was wearing a blue blazer. O,
he looked like a dream. Tall, with broad shoulders and yet very polite,
exceedingly gentle. He repeatedly asked me whether I had any trouble
finding him and I repeatedly told him not to lose sleep over it. We
entered the eatery at eleven am and was there till midday. We intended
to have lunch there but Andy said he had something else in mind. I sent
my vehicle home and we drove to the river in his massive car. Well what
do you know. At the harbour there was this great looking boat named,
guess&;#8230;Melissa. As I squirmed with pleasure he handed me the
keys to the boat. As we entered a band on board started playing 'Happy
Birthday to&;#8230;.'. Gosh I had all but forgotten. Today is my
birthday. Andy shook my hand and greeted me. Then we had a great lunch
with all my favorite dishes on board the boat. If this was not enough
there was much to follow Dear Diary. After lunch we drove to the
airport. Not knowing what to do I was about to call Mom when Andy asked
me to go to the check-in counter. After mandatory checks we, meaning
Andy and I boarded the plane. And it was then that I realized what was
happening. Well, Andy and I were traveling to Bombay on a flight which
had only the two of us as passengers. The rest of the tickets had been
bought off by Andy. A full-size plane and only the two of us! How very
romantic.
We reached Bombay in two hours. By four pm we were at the Majestic
Cinema. A greater surprise awaited me there. Not only did Andy and I
watch the movie all by ourselves in the huge hall the movie itself was
no movie at all.. It was actually a recording of various events in my
life including those that occurred today. Some of them had been shot by
me. Well, after the movie was over we had dinner at a roadside hawker's
stall on the beach. I took the flight back to Calcutta and here I am in
the city at 10 pm.
What a day it has been. I feel that I have got all I ever wanted today.
Andy will be traveling next week. He has promised to get back to me
after that. Our families have spoken to each other. I hope we have a
glorious future together. That's it for today diary dearest. Before I
forget, happy twenty-first birthday to me.
Melissa.
