Orpheus and Eurydice

It wasn't long ago they met
Both young, both beautiful
He sang like an angel
She smiled like one
It looked like fate had been set
But the gods were jealous of their love
So they devised a plan
On their wedding night
Poor Eurydice would die.
How can this be?
So young and free
They had done nothing wrong
But not matter what
Would come to them
Their love would stay forever strong.
They said "I do" and then went
Into a lovely field
The serpent poisoned her
With his bite and
She fell to the ground
And said these words to him
"Orpheus, don't let me go.
Just stay here for awhile."
So he held her hand
And silently cried
How can this be?
So young and free
They had done nothing wrong
But not matter what
Would come to them
Their love would stay forever strong.
Orpheus would do almost anything
to get his poor bride back
What would he do without
His Eurydice?
He had to bring back his queen
He had a notion to go to the place
Where the shadwos darken
He'd ask the king if
Eurydice could come home.
How can this be?
So young and free
They had done nothing wrong
But not matter what
Would come to them
Their love would stay forever strong.
He sailed the River Styx black
Sang Cerberus to sleep
Charmed all the guards of the
Underworld and
All to get Eurydice back
"I have no pity for you, Man. But
not one would come this far."
So Hades brought his own
Eurydice to him
Oh could this be?
Once dead, but there is she!
They embraced and
Orpheus thanked Hades
But nothing came without a price
The man could not look at her
Until they both reached Earth
If he did, she'd turn back
And never see
The light of sun or Earth
The anxiety was strong, he had
To see her face. He stepped
On earth, turned and looked
Eurydice was not there
How can this be?
So young and free
They had done nothing wrong
But not matter what
Would come to them
Their love would stay forever strong.
He failed his quest to get his
Love, and would not sing.
She was gone for good and
Nothing he could do...
Until he saw her
Again.
