Reader meets author
Pharoah's grave and graven gaze.
Formal, still, benign and careless
I watch you as you move above me.
Despot.
Purblind, I try to tell that face,
Translate you through our touch.
But you give tongue in language
I can't understand. Ancient Glyphs.
You're distant from me
Like some etched and ancient stone.
Sometimes, suddenly, I think
I have the key to you,
When, careless, you let slip
From tightened lip, caress.
Startled into hope I think
Oh yes. He loves me now.
But even while my tracing touch,
Knowing, skims your textures, planes and marks
You hold a mirror to my face
Your text, reversed, is runic.
And beautiful, austere, surprised,
You watch me love you.
But sometimes, suddenly, I think
I have the key to you
When, careless, you let slip,
From tightened lips, a sigh.
