Sometimes when we speak it can almost seem real
But these are words that are never said
They are mere signals sent from our head
To the keyboard, which remains our only voice
Allowing us to make up some words of choice
Our eyes are the ears to listen, wanting to read
Taking in sentences with hunger and speed
Yet when the words are done and the sentences gone
The memory of those conversations made
Disappear with the glow as the monitor fades
But wires across the world continue with the sound
As others keep typing and send their words around
Waiting as ours arrive untouched and pure
Can we ever know those words are meant for us
Who really typed them - is there someone to trust?
So if you are unsure and prefer not to be alone
There may be a real person on the end of the phone
