prayer

Lord help the outlaw, Lord help the thief. Lord help the poet who
died in grief. Lord help the bad girls fallen from grace. Lord help the
hangman with a mask on his face.
Lord help the underdog who loves his own cage. Lord help the lover
broken by his rage. Lord help the madman with a black light in his eye.
Lord help the spider, Lord help the fly.
Oh Lord light the hallway dark as death. Make melodies of summer
nights from winter's black breath. Lead the wild horse to water and see
it drink deep. Put the bright bird in this heart that's asleep.
Lord help the eagle, Lord help the dove. Lord help the man who must
slay the things he loves. Lord help the woman who wept in the station.
Lord lift the fog that crept in. Lord hold a lamp to light her way
home. Lord warm the cold bed she slept in.
Open these eyes that have not cried in years. There's only dust
where there once was tears.
