AT LULWORTH COVE
I sat in peaceful solitude
Alone in Lulworth cove
As gentle waves lap't the shore
A cloudless sky above
Tiny boats bobbed up and down
Sheltering on the lea
And sails, far on the horizon
Sailed o'er, the glistening sea.
I lay down upon the pebble beach
Closed my eyes, the sound
The earth's pulse, heard within the waves
Echoed the hills around
And in the heat of the blazing sun
The sounds washed o'er my soul
Led me to a heavy sleep
My mind, to loose control.
I dream't I sailed the seven sea's
Shipwrecked, washed ashore
Upon some south-sea island
My love to see no more
Countless years I lived there
For ships I searched in vain
I lost all hope of ever
Seeing my love again.
Each night as I lay awake
Her face and form I'd see
"I'm waiting with your son" she'd say
"Please return to me"
Those words would haunt my Aching day
As I struggled so to live
And I prayed to god each lonely night
One last chance, to me give.
Then late one day, I chanced to spy
On the horizon, a majestic sail
As Closer to my island home
Their captain heard me hail
A tiny boat from out the ship
Saved me from my hell
They took me home to England
My stories end now I can tell.
As into Plymouth docks we sailed
There by the Harbour wall
Stood my love, and by her side
A young lad, standing tall
I threw my arms in love's embrace
And thanked our Lord above
To the Crying sound of sea-gulls
I awoke in Lulworth cove.
