Has not every dirt-faced boy felt the thrill
when with his boot he violently penetrates an anthill
and crushes one by one,
the creatures, their sleek black bodies gleaming in the sun.
And as they run
they look skyward and see the glee upon the face of their
destructor.
All boys become men.
Some men, through great deeds, become heroes.
Some heroes, over time, become gods.
Yet when they feel the need for thrill,
the memory of the hill
returns
and a god once more looks to creatures weaker than himself
for his amusement.
