Serious Concerns

Setting out upon the path of life,
the Young Man, unperturbed by care and strife,
thinks not about the ground that lies ahead,
but surveys the blue expanse beyond instead.
He has no time for serious concerns,
and the only thing for which he truly yearns,
is to sample the World's beauty for himself,
uninhibited by stature, kin or wealth.
What awaits him on his journey? Who can say?
Perhaps he'll find his love and with her stay,
or meet with such great ruin and disgrace,
that he may no longer wish to show his face.
But for now at least his step is sure and light,
and in the simplest things he takes such great delight.
For example, see him kneel upon the ground,
to pick a solitary flower he has found,
from among the mountain's sharp and craggy stone;
the most savage rock the world has ever known.
And so with the morning sun upon his back,
he continues down the long and well-worn track,
not noticing the precipice before him,
he skips and jumps unknowing to its rim.
