Snowflake Sonnet

When evergreens are tipped with frosty white
And berries red adorn the holly bough,
Sweet silver Moon shines clear on chilly night,
You may be sure that it is Winter now.
Warm hats and gloves to shield us from the cold,
And fleecy boots to keep the chilblains out,
A cheering fire, as New Year follows Old,
While lucky First-foot makes his walkabout.
Such lovely scenes outside our window-sill,
Snow falling, in a silent whirl of lace,
A time to ponder at the awesome still,
And brush the dust of snowflakes from each face.
A time of Christmas gifts and friendship true;
Of love and hope that are restored anew.
