Urban Wildlife
Easily Identifiable by their white trainers and colourful coats bearing
the markings 'Eccy Posse Crew' these mammals react violently in the
wild when threatened. Although these creatures have no natural
preadators in their surrounding urban environment, they demonstrate a
clear vulnerability in their predisposition to seek safety in numbers,
a charecteristic common in all weak species. In such a group or pack
these quiet nocturnal mammals become increasingly aggresive and hostile
to other members of wildlife in the area.
In such instances of territorial dispute every male member of the pack
deemed of adult age adopts a slouched posture in perfect mimicry of
that worn by the dominant male of the group. Many of these males extend
this attempt to become one with the pack and the safety it provides by
adopting the grooming pattern worn by the dominant male. Females on the
other hand do not display allegiance to the packs dominant male through
mimicry but instead as found throughout the animal kingdom signal their
loyalty to the leader through acts of intimacy such as grooming. As a
general rule the dominant male accepts these displays of intimacy from
all female members of the group and chooses one female for each night
with whom to mate although this is rarely exclusive to either party,
should the opportunity arise. The courting procedure is indeed
complicated with many possibilies of how the unity can occur. One of
the more prominant methods is a clear Behaviourialist offer with the
male signaling his intent to the female by the offering of a sweet,
herbal liquid, Labido Buckyacas. Indeed such is the promiscous nature
of the female members of the pack that they may indulge in many such
offers and indeed initial stages of the mating procedure before
selecting their male companion for the remainder of the night.
Later in the night the relative tranquility of the pack is shattered
when the dominant male regards the actions of a young male as an action
of disrespect for his position. As alpha male an animal enjoys first
choice of all benefits of pack activities be they merely games, mates
or kill. This time however a youngster of the pack hardly able to be
deemed of adult maturity has undermined the leaders position by
ignoring his 'two's' call. Despite the pack possessing plenty between
them the fact that the leader had chosen to take this one results in
the misproper posession and use of it becoming a very complicated sense
of power relationships. This act if not responded to by the dominant
male would in time be seen by all members of the pack as a direct
challenge for the role of dominant male and results in the alpha male
charging the youngster with primal aggresion. The leading male attacks
the youngster in a frenzied display of power partially as a reprimand
for his actions and also in some cases more importantly as a warning to
other members in the pack that he remaind the dominant male and as a
result is to be respected.
The pack recognising this underlying message of power relationships
'whoop' in delight at their leaders display pausing only to jeer at the
youngsters retraet to lick his wounds inflicted by his father
figure.
In time the youngsters wounds will heal although the laws of nature
warn the members of the pack that the weak are unlikely to survive long
in this world where survival is at times the best case scenario.
Despite these battles the species appear to appreciate the sanctuary of
the pack offered from the outside world placing the loose sense of
family relationships above their own personnel safety.
