Plastic Godzilla

Shooting pool, pitching scripts
half-eaten sandwich on the counter
and Bitter Lemons
when I look at us
the daikaiju suspended
below the surface
barely visible to the eye
but growing like
the Great Pacific garbage patch
about the size of Texas
it will not rise up
up from the depths
all 270,000 square miles of it
a plastic Godzilla
dull skin of bottle tops,
cigarette lighters, balloons
pelagic jaws belching
chemical sludge
no, it’s the chicks mouthed
plastic by their parents
that die, the microplastic
in the jellyfish, the larger fish
in the food chain
bloating the stomach
what the digestion can’t break down
it’s in our throwaway living
we’re all plastic now.

Good one chant
Like a bad dream this; a set of slightly surreal, quite unpleasant images that packs a solid punch in conveying a serious message.
