Ah have you ever met a vampire&;#063;

Have you ever met a vampire? Not the kind you get knocking at the
door demanding " trick or treat". A real, white " can't go out in the
sun vampire.
Some people think that vampires suffer from porphyria and that accounts
for the deathly white pallor and the need for blood, as well as the
extreme sensitivity to sunlight.
Other people think that they are myths made up to keep the peasants
obedient.
But I've met one. He was tall, dark and handsome. His pointed teeth
didn't show unless he wanted me to see them. He didn't sleep in a
coffin but he did have blackout curtain liners and he did sleep most of
the day.
He found me one night, when I was taking the dog for a walk. My dog's
hackles rose and he growled at him. The vampire smiled at me and
said
" Your dog doesn't like me. He thinks I'm going to harm you."
" Are you going to harm me?"
" No, I don't think so, not tonight anyway."
" What do you mean, not tonight? Why should you want to harm me at
all?"
He took my arm and began to walk alongside of me.
" I could really harm you, but I'd like to sample your blood. I'd only
have a drink. You'd come to no harm."
"What?! Are you serious? You're telling me that you're a vampire?
That's silly, vampires don't exist. They are just folklore and
myths."
He smiled and showed me two pointed teeth.
" They prove nothing. I've seen pictures of people who have had their
teeth filed into points so that they look like the traditional
vampire."
He looked at me and suddenly he was hovering about six inches off the
floor. I just gaped at him, I'm sure my mouth was open. The dog cringed
away from him and barked.
As he came down to earth he smiled again and said
" Can the people with the filed teeth do that?"
" Er.. No. I don't think anyone can do that. So what happens
next?"
" I take you home. To your house" he added when he saw my look of
doubt.
" I'm not sure I want you to know where I live."
" But I do dear girl. I know where you live. I've been watching you
take your dog for a walk for quite a time now. You live in the big
house on the hill. You share it with four other people and you very
seldom go out during the day."
" Now how do you know that? I thought that vampires come out only at
night?"
" But, nothing stops us from paying other people to watch and find out
things."
He took me home saying
" I'll see you tomorrow night, but leave the dog at home" and then he
vanished.
I spent a restless night and a tortured day and it wasn't until 8pm
that I decided that I would go out. I'd led a quiet life up until
now!
He was waiting at he end of the drive. He was in a car and we went into
town. He left me in the car for a short time and came back carrying
some Chinese takeaway.
" I hope you like Chinese food"
" I love it, but you don't eat ordinary food do you?"
" No, that's why I got you the food. It causes too many problems for me
to sit in a restaurant. I'll take you to my place and you can eat. I'll
just watch."
"Don't you er? will you er.."
Somehow I couldn't ask him outright about his blood/food supply.
" I've had my meal tonight, don't worry. I won't eat you" he laughed at
me.
The meal would have been better if I had been feeling more at ease but
I was feeling very apprehensive. After I'd eaten what I could he sat
down next to me.
" I'm called Barnabas and I'm a vampire."
I started giggling
"What's wrong? What was funny?"
" It sounds like an AA meeting. I half expected a chorus of " hello
Barnabas"".
He saw the humour and laughed. He was very attractive and I started to
relax in his company. I wasn't scared of him and I did find him
intriguing.
" I'm going to give you a choice. We can never meet again or we can see
one another on a regular basis."
I looked at him " there's a hidden agenda here " I thought so I
said,
" You make it sound as if there's a choice within the choice"
" I can not drink your blood and you'll go home and always wonder what
it would be like. Or I can drink your blood and we can meet every
night, which might give you an experience you'll not only enjoy but
also look forward to."
" I'd have a scar on my neck?"
" I'd not use your neck, it's a bit further down, where it wouldn't
show."
" What type of experience? I'm guessing that you don't have sex in
mind"
" I can have sex and if I get to know you better we might become
lovers. The best way of getting to know one another would be for me to
drink your blood."
" And me drink yours?"
" Not necessarily so. The only way you'll find out will be to
experience it. I won't kill you and I won't force you."
" So is this how you normally feed?"
" No, it's not. I'd need too much from you if I really fed on you. I
make other arrangements."
I must admit I was really curious about his offer. I thought that I'd
always wonder about what might happen? so I agreed!
He gently moved my clothes away from my neck, near where my collarbone
was. I felt a sharp pinprick and then bliss. I can't explain it but I
felt wonderful and I also knew Barnabas. I knew everything about him,
all about his "arrangements" And then it was over and I was staring at
him.
" Wow, is it always like that?"
Barnabas nodded and grinned at me.
" I know all about you," I said
" Yes, I did tell you that it is a unique experience. I went through it
before I became a vampire. My master, for want of a better word,
decided that he wouldn't drain me. We had this blissful relationship
until I asked to become a vampire.
" Will I want to be a vampire?"
" That's up to you, some people are quite content to want to keep their
humanity. Others want the full vampire experience, but I have to warn
you. Being made a vampire is painful and traumatic, not everyone can
take the pain and they don't go through with it all!"
"What happens to them?"
" They lose everything and die. But don't think about that now."
"How can I stop from thinking about it? Would it happen to me? What
could be better than what I've just experienced?"
" Come here and I'll show you" said Barnabas.
He took me out into the garden and wrapped his arms around me. I
thought he was going to kiss me so I closed my eyes and leaned towards
him. But he just laughed and said
" Open your eyes"
I opened my eyes and wow we were flying, my home was beneath us and I
could see for miles. All the streetlights were twinkling like yellow
gems against a black velvet showcase. It was beautiful and
exhilarating. It's hard to describe it, as I've never had any other
experience anything like it. Slowly Barnabas took me down to earth and
we walked to his house without speaking. We didn't need to speak; we
were as close as anyone could be to another person. It was as though we
were sharing our thoughts.
Inside the house, though, Barnabas interrupted the silence.
" Now you know what we all wanted. Not only the bliss of sharing a
person but also the thrill of flight, and the lure of staying here
whilst our other friends grew old and died. That's another of the myths
that is true, we don't age. But we can eat garlic and we can use
mirrors, my master told me that he couldn't see himself in a mirror but
I can certainly see myself. Daylight destroys us but we can survive
being drowned, poisoned and being shot. There's not much that will
damage us permanently; we can even recover from being burnt, although
that does take a long time. Even diseased blood is OK; though I've
never knowingly drunk from anyone who is HIV positive or who has CJD.
So, what more do you want to know?"
I was dazed, not only from all the information I'd just been given but
also from the flying and the blood sharing. I shook my head and said
that I'd like to go home to think about everything. Barnabas took me
home, kissed my lightly on my lips and said that we would meet again
the next night.
By the next night I'd done all the thinking I'd ever any need to do. In
Barnabas' house he said
" You want to do it don't you?"
"Yes, I do, I'm very sure it can't be worse than my dreary hum-drum
life and it will probably be exciting."
And it is exhilarating. The act of becoming a vampire was dreadful. It
was painful but it was also purifying in a strange way. All of my aches
and pains were gone, never to return.
So, my dear boy, like I said before." have you ever met a
vampire?...before?"
