The Boy That Could Fly
by Marina Kauffman
Not very long ago in a place not very far from here there was a little boy who had always wished that he could fly. This was the only thing he ever wanted in the whole world, but this is also something that was very hard to achieve as he was told that it is not possible to fly.
He looked longingly at the birds in the sky, as he yearned for that freedom. Everyday he would attempt to fly and everyday he would fail, but he did not give up as he felt deep within him that it is possible. At first people would laugh at him because they thought he was crazy, but to him it did not matter as to him his dream was so much more important.
Later people felt sympathy as they saw his determination at accomplishing this impossible task. They tried redirecting his attention to other persuits that would be more fruitful and thus less of a disappointment, but this little boy was determined he would fly.
He began to study the birds as they flew, they held the secret to his passion. He knew that it was possible. The boy decided to build a set of wings. It had to be really big, as though he was a little boy he was not that little and the wings had to be able to carry him.
He built his wings from what he observed from the birds, and set off to test it. Everyday he failed he would go back and start again, it was a tiring task but the boy was determined and he just knew he would fly. Many just shook their heads and gave up on the little boy with sad hearts, but they figured he would tire eventually.
The little boy continued to study the birds and alter his wings, still he did not fly, but he kept on until one day finally, a man form the village came and took away his wings as he felt this boy had to know that he could not continue in this way. The little boy still did not give up, he started building himself a new set of wings, he was not angry with the man but he still knew that he would fly.
The man looked at the boy and shook his head, he admired the little boy but felt a great sadness that he knew this boy would be disappointed, he knew that people where not meant to fly. He was sad as he also did not wish for the boy to be disillusioned, so he decided to help the boy even though he knew the task to be impossible.
He figured that such determination should at least be rewarded. As he worked worked with the boy the boys enthusiasm touched him and he began to see it not as such an impossible task, together they worked the man and the boy, observing, testing and building.
One day as they tested the wings the boy flew, he flew over the village, and over the mountains, he saw as he wished everything form the sky, his wings worked. The man looked at the boy in wonder as he realized they have just achieved the impossible, and this was due to the little boy with the dream who knew he could fly.
