Farewell (lament for a highland lassie)

Goodbye dear heart, your time to leave
Has come upon us suddenly.
As heather bells droop silenty
These highland glens your loss must grieve.
Your soft light footsteps through fairy rings,
No more will tread where Laverock sings.
Sweet Mountain Thyme and flowing streams
Now cease to lull your gentle dreams.
Fare well must be our parting words
Echoed among the mourning birds.
The Piper low his tune will sound
As deep we lay you in the ground,
We trust your soul to such as he
Who gave his life on Calvary.
Tis little comfort but eases pain
To know someday we`ll meet again.
O`er purple heather blanket hills
Again we`ll stop by shady rills.
Content once more, through time and space,
Our God shall hold us in his grace.
