Distant Friends

I fell in love with the night the day she came to me
Along she brought distant friends
Ones I was yearning to see
We sang and spoke in unbound joy
Until we saw a stream
We could not touch it yet we could feel
The warmth of its gleam
The friends began to yawn
And some closed their eyes to dream
Night got up from her seat
And her and her friends took their leave.
