Death is my Only Friend.
As I rounded the darkened corner I tasted the metallic flavor of blood
as if it was an ice cream I was licking. His eyes met mine. I knew this
was it. I stared into two blackened tunnels, no longer sure if I was
wearing anything. The distinct smell of beer met my nose as I whispered
a prayer. I could only hope of a miracle! The silver tip of the
bloodstained rapier hit my chest. As I fell to the floor my hand
touched my dead husband's rigid body. No longer could I hold it away.
Then appeared pain, his malice pricking at my stomach. His pointed nose
poking the insides of my lungs. A smoke screen clouded my eyes, my
drunk brother-in-law laughing his girlfriend cowered in the shadows of
the alley. Why hadn't she helped? I drew my final breath.
Chapter 1: Alice
When you think of the name Alice you instantly picture a girl with a
bow in her hair. Maybe a blue dress, blonde, pretty, young. All her
life Alice had been subjected to teasing such as "I'm late, I'm late,
for a very important date". It had of course come apparent that she did
resemble the stereotypical Alice so she just accepted this teasing as
childish and stupid!
Alice's figure was slim. Not tall, not short, just right! Her hair was
always neat: never limp or greasy, just neat. Always In Company's hand,
always sensible, always able to lend a hand. Practically perfect even
at 35!
But Alice wasn't, she had a secret, a hole of guilt in her golden
heart. Nobody but her should know. At night she had nightmares about
it, in the day voices echoed in her head like a child's bouncy-ball
constant non- stopping voices.
"All you did was cower in the shadows!"
"It's your fault she died!"
"MURDERER!" Sometimes Alice talked back to them, shouted, pleaded. They
would never leave!
It had been a cold morning. Alice had awoken in full light her white
covers kicked off in a fit of panic as the scene had repeated itself in
the night. Standing up Alice noticed she had again drunk herself silly
when the headache knocked her down back into the swollen duvet.
"Oww!" She groaned. Knowing she needed to get to work she pulled
herself
up took a step towards the bedroom door, wobbled and fell.
