King Apathy

King Apathy tramps through the decrepit halls of his wasted pastimes
Hooked on life’s crazy submarine flavor
& its melted-down holding-cell aftertaste
Growing thinner & thinner according to the whims of the modern world
because his super-sensitivity corresponds all too well with undernourishment
Yet hungering only for eras he has yet to devote more than fifteen
minutes of fame to understanding;
Composing private anthems to his own
transcendent uselessness,
Having drawn influence from the same unlikely sources as everybody else--
The same shabby ironies identical to all but the most respectable nonconformists
Capitalizing on man’s free will fetish
& his common burden of cherished ignorance;
Disavowing both accolade & ovation in his quest
for the perfect Idea;
Pandering grotesque perspectives on religion, disease
& death to a hung jury
Yet only bowing to conventional wisdom
When forced by contract to appear in public to burn
money as a fashion statement
