Shake Down The Shack She Calls Confusion

Reason shouts to the high hills
Through the jaws of a kid sister’s plastic doll;
Green slime in its hair and eyes
Dead spiders stuck between its teeth
Throat plugged with a thick gingerbread residue
scraped from dollhouse sink
Shaking down the shack she calls confusion
& freeing the two boys trapped inside,
whose only crime was trying to figure out the easiest
way to eat fried worms
& how roast bugs can save the world’s food supply;
Grilling cheeseburgers on dusty engines
at barbecues held in car wash garages
Sparked into life by belief in comic books
& not yet cursed by a youth that neither will live
long enough past its limit to renounce
