Art vs. Politics

Dad entered the world of nursing homes. He thinks that he's still in
the hospital; mom is in denial. My sister accompanied her. I arrived
later on in the day and drove mom home.
My uncle E., the artist, attended "The Academy of Fine Arts" after WWII
on the GI bill. He entered a contest three years consecutively. The
winner would be sent to Italy for continuing studies. He came in second
in each of the three years. When he questioned the outcome after the
third attempt he was told that the winner had to be the offspring of a
major contributer.
He came home that night after drinkng too much and shot olives across
the table with his younger siblings. He later became an art therapist.
Politics won.
From my six aunts and uncles I have fourteen first cousins. At present
they have twenty seven children. Many of these children are older than
me. From these second cousins there are already seven babies.
My uncle, the artist, died over 10 years ago but he's still shooting
olives; no one has become an artist since.
