The Good Thiefs Pistol

Hold your hope in the barrel of a good thief's pistol (the world is
yours)
25th February, 4am to 6am
splash on a brittle compliment
and smile like the world is yours
take the stage for your final bow
and fake your own applause
shiver inside an apology
and punch the untouched dream
graze your knees against apocalypse
and fade to a silent scream
pop constants in your ideal life
and break hearts with a cynical soul
pray for the dirt with your head in the skies
and swim against the shoal
load your thoughts with bittersweet envy
Use insanity like a prop
Send tinderbox ships to ungrateful shores
And curse when the waves don't stop
kiss Paranoia on the softest cheek
and offer her a chair
sip 12 year scotch as the firelight plays
and churn skunk smoke through the air
Slither towards those pearly gates
And play dead for a dollar or two
Sit inside these embarrassed walls
And bid your faith adieu
Build a bridge by day, to burn at night
To shelter yourself from the cold
Mix wishful thinking with a wistful drink
As you feel the bottle take hold
Walk a mile in the good thief's shoes
Feel a callous enclose your eyes
So you see through the words to the world inside
A daisy in disguise.
Hold your hope in the barrel of a good thief's pistol
And pray his mercy shines
For a split second your life's in a strangers hands
Being valued in nickels and dimes
A sheep in wolfs clothing, a good thief: defined.
Wont stray too far from the pack
Because he knows that once he decides to leave
There's ain't never no going back.
Splash compliments like condiments
And smile at the world that will be
No more, no less, no pain, no mess
Just take your bow and see
