Could you lay down your life for the one you love

The situation was impossible. Sacha knew James was taken, yet she
had loved him for three years, he loved someone else and more
awkwardly: he hated her. How was she ever going to pass her English
exam with thoughts of him filling her head? "Oh well," she thought "too
late to think about that now." She took her seat at the front and
began.
Sacha's head was in torment her brain couldn't even piece together the
words on the page to form a sentence. The fire bell rang. Everyone
walked out in an orderly manner: until they noticed the flames.
Pupils screamed; teachers cried and couples hugged emotionally:
drawing comfort and strength from each other. The school was in utter
chaos, as the flames loomed high above the building, it was inevitable
that many lives would be lost: the fire had spread too quickly for all
to be saved.
Sacha was surrounded by a pack of friends all trying to support each
other. Until she heard the agonising screams of Libby: "James, James oh
where is he? I've got to find him, let me go!" Her friends were trying
desperately to hold her back but she pulled away, a look of great
terror in her eyes that was heartbreaking to see.
"Oh shit! No! Oh please, no!" Sacha cried and before anyone could stop
her she began to run out of the tennis courts and round to the sixth
form centre - the only place she could think of that he might be.
Her heart was pounding as she ran and ran; tears streaming down her
face, blinding her vision. "Oh please Lord please let him be ok." It
was in view, she quickened her pace and the adrenaline took over.
She entered the building, flames and smoke surrounding her. The fumes
were making it increasingly difficult to breathe. She tore of her
sweatshirt and put it over her mouth, ran through the clouds of smoke
until she found the door leading to the steps to the common room,
stumbling up them she gazed at the sight before her: about 4 bodies;
limp; no movement. "Oh no, please no this can't be happening." She
exclaimed spotting the unmistakable floppy hair covering James' face.
"Oh no it can't be him. No!" She screamed. The sound would have pulled
at any-ones heartstrings: so full of pain and despair.
Sacha ran over and knelt down beside James. She spoke desperately, her
heart being torn apart with the knowledge he could be dead. "James,
James it's me. Look I know how much you hate me but please wake up,
don't die James. You've broken my heart in the past but I forgive you,
I love you: I always have. Please forgive me, wake up oh please wake
up. Don't die on me. I don't think I could live without you." No
response. "Hearing is the last sense to go," she thought. She put her
ear to his mouth, no warmth on his breath: stone cold. She checked for
a pulse, it was weak, but yes, she felt it "James oh James don't leave
me, please don't leave me." She was beginning to choke, her breathing
ragged now unable to stand the toxic air for much longer, but unable to
leave James' side. She had to do something, try and help - even though
she knew she was dying herself. Knowing she couldn't move him -even to
fresh air - she tilted his head back (to open his airway) then began
resuscitation.
After a while she felt him breathing on his own, he lifted his hand
and she took it in hers. "James oh James thank you." She whispered as
she heard the distant sirens of the fire engine. "It's ok James you're
going to be ok, we're both going to get out of here alive! They're
coming James they're really coming!" She planted a soft kiss on his
lips. "I have always loved you and always will James." She said softly.
"Please don't hate me any longer, I couldn't bare it if you did." She
began to feel light headed and sat down. She lay her head next to
James' and within her last few breaths she whispered " I'm sorry you
hated me James please forgive me, I know I was a shit little bitch and
did some naive and stupid things but I've matured. I don't do crap like
that anymore and all I want is for you to forgive me, it's all I've
wanted for like two and a half years now. Please forgive me and don't
hate me, don't bear grudges, I forgave you for all the shit you put me
through all I ask is that the favour be returned."
As she took her final breath she simply said: "Never forget me and
please don't hate me any longer." With one pain-filled sigh and a final
tear trickling down her damp cheeks, she passed away.
Sacha risked her life that day to save the guy that she loved, she
didn't even have time to tell him all the things she'd wanted to - or
sort out the past that lay between them of bitter words and cruel
actions but she'd forgiven him for everything he'd done. He hated her,
and loved his girlfriend - who also put Sacha through a lot - and yet
Sacha loved him. She's ended up dead and he's alive because of her love
for him. What greater love is there than sacrificing your life for
someone else? Especially someone who's caused you the utmost grief in
your life. What wasn't mentioned is that Sacha tried to kill herself
six times because of what he and his girlfriend put her through over
the years, but in the end she died saving him, that's got to mean
something, would you have done the same? It just proves that true love
never dies - but you can die for true love.
