Sleeping Beauty

As I sing ever so quietly, you look at me and smile
In silent, tranquil pre-slumber¦
Eyes weary with accomplishment of today's quests
And expectation of tomorrow's surprise!

This day was long and strenuous for you,
Frolicking, shopping and outbursts to try us!
Then smiles and chuckles and additional new words¦
Just a few extra treasures that bless us!

Your little voice murmurs the name of the one
You adore and trust with innocent depth¦
"Daddy, Daddy, Daddy.
You strain to awaken to his footsteps.

Miniature, pursing lips with a dimple on the bottom
Lay chubby and relaxed in pleasurable tranquillity.
Complete tiny fingers, earlier manoeuvring in a "high five
Now wrapped carefully around your infant feet.

I watch as you sleep, sweet angel,
Child of my child fleshes of my flesh.
I am weak against the tears that flow from me¦
As I feel how we have been blessed.
