Dinosaur 2
Hungry
The three dinosaur friends were always looking for things to eat, and
being rather large; they liked to eat a lot. So it was decided (by Dave
of course) that they should travel to another place, as their seemed to
be less food where they were living.
On the day they set out Spike was a little anxious, "Are we going to
have a big feed today?" He asked Dave.
"No I'm afraid you're going to have very little to eat for a couple of
days", said Dave. "In fact it could be longer so you had better get
used to the idea of an empty stomach".
Spike didn't like that idea at all, so when they set off he was very
sad.
Gobbledegook on the other hand was not at all sad, he knew they were
going on a great adventure; but Dave hadn't quite gotten the message
across about the food shortage. "Flobbygooble gobbyslooble!"
Gobbledegook gobbled with excitement.
The three dinosaurs walked and walked and walked. After a lot more
walking they saw some trees in the distance.
"There must be some water over there" said Dave.
"And maybe some animals", said Spike hungrily.
"slobberflubber" said Gobbledook. I think we all know what he
meant!
As they approached the trees they heard a strange noise, it sounded
like a low rumbling followed by a "thump! Thump! THUMP!"
"oooeer" Spike was a little worried, "That sounds like a BIG animal!".
Spike liked little animals; in fact anything bigger than two mouthfuls
was a little too big for Spike.
Gobbledegook on the other hand was not scared at all; he didn't care
how big it might be he was HUNGRY! He stepped forward to the edge of
the trees. It looked dark inside and the trees looked much closer
together than he had thought when they were approaching. Despite Dave's
words of caution Gobbledegook stepped into the darkness.
As his eyes got used to dim light he could see trees everywhere, they
were very close together. He found it difficult to squeeze his enormous
body between some of them; and as he moved further in they were getting
closer together. The sound was coming from the left front, so he moved
slowly that way; squeezing between trees as he went.
"Rummmmbbllle", "thump! Thump! THUMP!" came the noise, it was getting
louder and Gobbledegook knew he was getting closer.
Outside the forest Spike and Dave were sitting down drinking water that
Dave had found in some curly leaves, still there from the last
rainfall.
"Do you think he will be alright?" asked Spike
"Well Gobby IS the biggest" said Dave, "If anyone can look after
themselves he can". Dave was secretly worried, but he didn't want to go
in THERE. If there were any food Gobbledegook would find it.
Gobbledegook found the trees getting more spaced out now and there
seemed to be a clearing ahead, as he put his head around a tree he saw
it. IT was a HUGE dinosaur! It was at least twice as long as
Gobbledegook, with big spines sticking out of its back. It was walking
around on all four legs and Gobby noticed its tail was a big round ball
also with spines sticking out.
"Spickydickywicky", thought Gobbledegook, which must have meant "More
spikes than Spike's got".
The 'big thing' was pacing around crying out its low rumbling cry and
hitting its giant tail on the floor of the clearing, "Ruuummmmblle,
thump! Thump! THUMP!" it went.
At this point even the brave Gobbledegook had decided that it was best
to leave, but as he turned to go he bumped into a tree with his clumsy
foot.
"Oouufff!" shouted Gobby, and immediately began to run because he knew
that 'thing' would be after him! He was right! And it could move fast!
Gobbledegook was going as fast as he could between trees, but the big
dinosaur was just brushing them aside; and was gaining on
Gobbledegook!
Dave and Spike heard the commotion coming from in the trees, and Dave
had a sudden idea! "Quick Spike, get the end of that big tree!"
Gobbledegook was almost out of breath, he was struggling between trees
and getting nearer to the edge of the forest? but the BIG THING was
getting closer to Gobbledegook! He just made it out of the trees where
Dave and Spike were standing; he saw they each had the end of a big
tree trunk. Gobbledegook leapt up in the air and with an almighty bound
cleared the tree trunk.
'Big thing' was not so lucky or clever. "Now!" shouted Dave, and he and
Spike lifted the trunk up, big thing smacked it head on!
"Cruuuucnch!!" and 'big thing' fell to the ground with an enormous
thud!
The three friends ate more that evening than they had ever
before!
The next morning Dave said they must keep moving, "That was a male 'big
thing'" he explained. "It must have been calling for a female. The
female will be even bigger, maybe twice as big! And when she finds out
we've eaten her mate she will be mad as hell!"
So off they went, this time Spike was a little happier, and less
hungry. Dave was pleased they had gotten rid of 'big thing', and
Gobbledegook was looking forward to his next adventure!
