Looking back

Looking back its hard to remember everything that happened, some
visions seem so distinct, while others are maybe unreal.
The most perfect day of my entire life was the day my auntie got
married. The sun was shining and it was a fresh spring morning. The
light was a hazy gold colour and the world seemed refreshed. We all
stood outside the little country church, while the photographer
insisted on taking pictures of everything and everyone. With the hills
in the back ground I could imagine the most picturesque images, but I
was more interested in running after my cousin Thomas. The two of us
were inseparable (although we liked to play hide and seek!) we held one
another's hand for pretty much the entire day. When it was time to go
home, Thomas and I were allowed to travel in this old maroon rolls
Royce. It was extremely posh and we both got to sit in the front seat,
everyone watched as we went.
When I arrived home that night, my parents weren't in a good mood. I
was sent to my room without any tea and told to be as quiet as a mouse
and stay in there till noon.
The next day I dared to venture down and all seemed normal. Later me
and my brother went down the bottom of the garden to play football
together. However when he tripped over, he let out a mighty screech and
went running off to 'his mummy'. I stayed outside and knew id be in for
it. I heard my dad yelling for me, but I wouldn't answer. So he came
down to get me and hit me so hard over and over again. Then he demanded
I go to my bedroom. Being obstinate I said no, I didn't see why I
should. So he grabbed my arm and dragged me there himself. Up the
garden, up the stairs, then threw me across the room. I hit my head
hard on the wall and wished I could be anywhere but here. Another life,
another world, I preferred to live in my dreams. My home was a prison,
my school was my refuge and my hope was in the future. As I stood
looking out the window that night, the tears streamed down my cheeks,
and I looked up at the stars shinning brightly in the sky and made one
wish. The wish of a happiness, the wish of a life, the wish that
someone could love me and come and save my life. Who my rescuer would
be, I did not know and I did not particularly care.
