Anne was sitting in the garden waiting for dinner to be ready when
Marigold came out into the garden and sat down beside her.
"You look bored, Anne!" Marigold chuckled.
"I forgot all my books." Anne remarked rather taken aback at Marigold's
observation.
"You could borrow some of mine. I have got stacks and stacks of books
in the library upstairs. Most of them are from my childhood but some of
them are the sort of things you would want to read when you get to my
age."
"You aren't that old Marigold. You're not even in your twenties yet."
Anne said.
"That is where you are wrong my dear. Now promise me that you won't
tell anyone. I am in fact twenty five, my mum sent me to school at the
same time as the others because she thought that I wouldn't mix
properly with the girls of my age. People didn't complain because I was
so small and back then they thought my brains were as small as I was. I
was twelve when I started school and because I had never been to school
before I was like the others academically although they were only
five."
You're twenty five! I thought you were eighteen like Joy and Gil. I
promise not to tell anyone on purpose and I will try my best stopping
it from slipping out while having a conversation with someone." Anne
exclaimed very taken aback.
"Thank you. It would break Joy's heart if she found out." Marigold
said.
Later on that day the doctor arrived to help Marigold through her
giving birth. The baby turned out to be a boy. They named him Robin
after the friend of his father. Robin's hair was a wonderful blonde
colour and his eyes turned out to be a pretty shade of blue.
Unfortunately they found out when he was about 2 years old that he was
deaf and so Marigold had a rather hard time learning sign language but
she managed and all the other children she had were taught sign
language from a very young age so that they would be able to
communicate with their big brother.
A week later it was time for them to leave Marigold, her husband and
Robin to go back to Prince Edward Island.
"Bye everyone. Oh and Anne I hope to see you again some time. Anne,
take this as a gift from me and Robin." Marigold said as she saw them
off into the taxi.
Anne opened up the present as soon as they got on the ferry, this time
they did not have any problems with trains. The present was very well
wrapped up, obviously by Marigold who was very talented when it came to
that sort of thing. Inside the brown paper was another layer of paper
but this time it was red and inside the card Marigold explained that
the extra covering was so that it was safer.
When Anne managed to get at the present she found a little bracelet
made with her name carved by hand into a rectangle of gold in the
middle of the bracelet. In the card it said to be very careful with it
and keep it safely hidden away when not being worn because it was pure
gold that Marigold had found in a stream when she was a little girl and
she had got her husband to make it into the bracelet.
