There use to be things to do.
That first summer
the old lady and I
went up to the roof
watched the stars
made love under them
for what seemed for hours
many a night

After school plays
to complain about
having to see
during prime time T.V.
cause the kid
had a bit part as a turtle.

There use to be things to do.
Overtime for extra money
for Grand cannon vacations
white water rafting
down the Delaware
Amish country.

There use to be things to do
karate lessons juggled in-between
orthodontist appointments
planing baby showers
surprise Fifth birthday parties
retirement bashes
Life was full of life

Now I wait as my father did
cup of decaf in hand
and schedule of pills
to be taken by us
so we could stay here
greet death
as healthy as possible.
