A television documentary
Showed a lab technician
Punching a beagle in the face,
'Abusing an animal
OUTSIDE THE REGULAR EXPERIMENT.'
A spokesman said
"But that doesn't mean
That we treat animals inhumanely.
In many ways
We are just like farmers.
They rear their animals
To be eventually killed
But in the meantime treat them well.
In some respects
What we do is more ethical
Than farmers.
At least our tests further mankind.
We never carry out a test
Unless it's absolutely necessary.
Meat, it can be argued
Is eaten purely for enjoyment."
Factory farms.
Battery hens.
Laboratory tools.
Nuts who enjoy inflicting pain.
What is the connection?
Progress. Civilisation.
Mechanisation.
A hen is a machine that makes eggs
(shame they're not square -
wastes space in packaging,
but we're working on it,
and think of the spin offs
in egg cups.)
A pig is a machine that makes pork.
A sheep is a machine that makes lamb.
A cow is a machine that makes milk
And beef.
And let's not forget the bonuses -
Leather and wool and glue,
And of course there's manure
The by product
But hey, we recycle that.
Not by spreading it on the fields.
Oh no, that's old fashioned.
We have chemical fertilisers these days.
No, we feed them their own excrement.
With flavourings and preservatives,
Just like human food.
And if they're lucky
We give them meat - so much more Affordable these days -
Even animals
Have a better standard of living.
They don't need grass anymore.
They don't need daylight.
All they need
Is someone ready to buy them
Otherwise
They'd never have been born.
Want = Product = Proffit.
Guess who's the piggy in the middle?
