I turned to recipes
for rich pastry
and light cakes.
Sweet biscuits
hot and crisp,
airy profiteroles crammed
with double cream
then cloaked in warm chocolate.
I loved to watch them all rise
through the oven door :
proof that I could cook,
give men pleasure
in one way,
then watch
as they ate
imagining how it felt
to melt
on a tongue
