The Terror of Grundelle Manor
Manfred strode calmly towards the great oak door of Grundelle manor.
The dark sky stretched beyond his sight, as the bruised clouds roared
over his head. Manfred enjoyed the rasping of the wet gravel beneath
his heavy boots, as the trail of crushed dirt marked his presence. The
rain drops hit his shoulders, as he proceeded up the shaded path, until
he stood on the verge of Grundelle Manor.
The Manor was dark: only the silhouette was visible. It stood solid,
as the biting wind whipped around it, enveloping it. It seemed empty,
for no lights could be observed out of the old leaded windows. The
great oakdoor poised itself in front of Manfred, who stood erect and
strong as the forces of nature buffeted him. Manfred pressed the
doorbell gently, and quietly waited. Unknown moments passed, as he
stood meekly, and wondered whether it was too soon to press the bell
again.
The massive building loomed above him, as he looked around its ancient
premises. Ivy among other monstrosities, clambered over its hardened
stonework, as if nature had come to reclaim it. The remains of some
years over-ambitious Ivy obscured the top of the doorway, where some
quantity of eroded inscription was present. The rainwater rushed down
through the cracks in the stones, and together with the Ivy, partially
concealed the carving. A blinding flash of lightning cast an
illumination over the building, while accompanied by the shrieking cry
of thunder.
"Wipe your feet please", was the inscription on the doorway. Manfred
did not move, he defied this request, this order. Fire burned in his
heart and he felt brave and daring, for he bowed to no will but his
own. Though the politeness of the request sparked pangs of guilt and
after debating the merits of either, he followed the course of least
resistance.
Footsteps approached the door and yet still no lights could be seen.
Sounds emanated from behind the door, that Manfred could not
distinguish. The scoring hiss of clunking bolts vibrated through the
door. Manfred took a slight step back and prepared himself for all
manners of horrors that would reveal themselves to his eyes.
The door creaked back on its hinges slowly, and the Manor disclosed
itself. The darkness stretched into infinity.
"What can I do for you, Mate?", questioned the diminutive, caped man.
The interrogation struck Manfred's hardened character to the core and
he found he was without words. The paralysis reached down through his
whole body and touched his soul. The wind blew round, and a moment of
undefined tension passed between them. Images and ideas rushed through
his mind, a hot flush flared his face. Manfred walked closer to the
man, he opened his mouth and said a few words. The wind roared, and the
man said nothing, as he shuddered drawing his cape together. Manfred
calmly reached into his coat, the man's eyes pierced into him,
demanding an explanation. His arm extended, and he held in his long,
spindly fingers, a card. It read,
"Manfred Enterprises - Exorcism at its best"
The man smiled, baring some uncannily long canines,
"Please, do enter", he said, holding open the door. Manfred strode in
unaware of the hidden dangers that beheld him.
