Road to uncertainty

As I walk down this road
Alone and unsure
My future is clouded
By the absence of you
My feet rest in footprints
Laid down over millennia
For I am not the first
Nor will I be the last
Every man knows of this road
Some choose not to face it
Some follow the wrong signs
But a few stay true to themselves
With more too gain, than there is to lose
They saw their future before them
Their lives complete
With the one they love
But I fear this road
With its ghosts of loves lost
Its end a dream as distant as mine
Through the mist I thought I saw you
Like a flaming torch in the distance
Guiding me home
But however far I walk
You never came any closer
My body wants to stop
To end this journey
But the voices of the men before me
Fill my heart with hope
So journey I will
On this road to uncertainty
And pray that when the mist clears
And the long walk is over
You're waiting for me
Under a sign that says
Forever
