Rock and Roll is Coming to Town

She thought about it every night when they went to bed. After he
fell asleep, she would sit and watch him for hours, breathing quietly,
wondering what it is about him that makes her stay. Caressing his brow,
gently kissing him, silently telling him that she was in love, always
in the back of her mind was that little voice asking, "why did you
change for him?"
Before meeting Alex, Dawn wasn't sure of the meaning of monotony. She
used to believe that by loving one person and pouring all your energy
into your relationship, her partner would naturally return the favour.
Fate, it seemed, had to teach her a cruel lesson.
For months she cried, screamed her lost love's name and waited for a
reply, a reason for why she wasn't his companion anymore. When it never
came she knew that she had to move on, with her faith in true love
shattered.
She was mad. Every guy who offered was, within hours, getting pleasure
she knew how to give. Her lost love had taught her well, too well. Her
mind was moulded to think that he came first and if he wanted to, it
would be her turn soon after. That had been the case every time she was
with him, always left unsatisfied but never spoke up about her wants
and needs.
Her reputation spoke for her. A guy who wanted quick, easy fun knew her
name, knew her as the girl who would want anything in return. So when
The Deftones came to town, she saw this as an opportunity to expand her
client base. What she wasn't expecting was for her life to change for
the better and to realise that she was better than the talent she
possessed in her fingertips.
At that point in her life, Smirnoff was her best friend. It was always
there for her when she needed to forget how low she had let herself
fall. One bottle of her favourite friend and The Deftones turned into
the best night of her life. She was loud, she was noticed, she had the
attention of her future clients and she loved it. Being the centre of
attention wasn't her goal, but advertising herself was, and like
everything she did, she did it perfectly.
So perfectly, in fact that she caught the attention of the most
beautiful guy there. With her beer glasses on, he was twenty-five, huge
and looked as if he belonged in an eighteen-wheeler. But he was more
interested in her than anyone else who was there, so she got him in her
targets and fired.
She walked up to him, making it perfectly obvious that she knew, to
him, she looked damn good. The mini-skirt and the tight top did it for
him and he didn't resist her in the slightest. With that seductive
smile on her face, she teased him with her curves and made him forget
the girl he had waiting for him back home.
At the time, she was only interested in pulling, and therefore
completing her night. She always had strict rules for herself: never be
the cause of a break up, never demean yourself and make sure the guy
knows the meaning of no. This guy was perfect for her, he didn't let
her bring herself down, never asked her to do anything, just sat back
and received, she liked that. He also understood if she asked if it was
ok to stop. The guys she had been with before were very adamant that
she was being used for their pleasure, and wouldn't let her stop when
she asked. She really liked this guy, the only problem was that he was
already taken. However, she couldn't have been doing her job right if
he forgot to mention that to the girl he was kissing that night,
Dawn.
After their dancing, kissing and teasing, Dawn lost her newfound
project in the crowds and never saw him again. This was not a huge
disappointment to her; she was under the influence of her best bud
Smirnoff and she thought that if it was meant to be, he would find her
again.
The night didn't end as satisfactorily as she had planned. As she was
swept into the crowds, thousands and thousands of people, viciously
jumping to the beats of their favourite band, she fell. Bad. She didn't
realise how bad until "Bubba, the bouncer from Fat Camp" pulled her out
of the crowd and put her on her feet, this was her cue to fall to the
floor like a rag doll, after noticing the excruciating pain in her
right knee. So Bubba ran to her aid (this for him was dragging her from
the front of the stage in the most unflattering fashion) and showed her
to the first aid corner.
Everything after this was a blur, but when she woke up in her own bed
the next morning, the largest contraption on her leg and the crutches
beside her bed helped her to remember the Victoria Infirmary's Accident
&; Emergency Department, her dad trying to get her in the back of
the car, and her brother spending the entire night laughing at
her.
The next few days were spent trying to get used to walking again,
wishing she could go out and meet up with all her friends like she
always did. But strangely, she was also hearing about this guy, Alex,
who she had supposedly met at the Deftones, which for her was more of a
mystical story than an actual event. Her friends were telling her how
amazing he was and how she just had to get in touch with him.
"Can I give him your number?" "Will you call him tonight?" "You don't
know how lucky you are to have him after you!"
No she didn't. She didn't have a clue who this guys was. For all she
knew, every one of her friends could be taking the piss. But if the
rumours were true, how could she pass this opportunity down?
So one Tuesday night, after spending the day being told, yet again how
much she had to call him, Dawn sent Alex a text message; "A little bird
told me that u have a thing for me, is he telling the truth?" Five
minutes later she got a reply from the stranger. "Yeah it's true, I had
a great time last week with you."
In one text message, he had managed to feel the way she had wanted to
feel all her life. Needed. She felt as if she had managed to touch him
in a way no one had touched him before, and she wasn't thinking dirty.
Her friends were right, she had to call him. One awkward phone-call
later, she was a giddy schoolgirl again! She felt so happy and she
didn't know why. She didn't remember what he looked like or even know
what he did to pass his day, all she knew was that he had activated
something deep down that other guys could only dream about.
Her previous relationship, she now knew, was nothing to go by. Her
ex-boyfriend was very special to her, first love and all that. The
weird thing was, that after one brief phone-call to Alex, she felt more
for him than what an entire relationship made her feel for her ex. He
was special to her already and she knew deep down that he would stay
that way for a long time yet.
Finally, she lay down next to him, leaning her head on his torso, and
like a natural instinct, without waking, his arm slide around her,
pulling her in to him. As he squeezed her tightly a smile appeared on
her face as she realised her reason for loving him. He loved her, never
asked anything from her, and from the day they met, he appreciated who
she was. He was everything she had every wanted.
As she cuddled into him, Dawn prayed to whoever was up there, that she
fulfilled his life as much as he did hers. She was happy now, she knew
the meaning of the word monotony, and she didn't miss who everybody
knew her as, the easy girl. And how could that be a bad thing? He has
restored her faith in true love, something she thought was lost
forever.
That night Dawn closed her eyes thinking quietly to herself, "Thank God
The Deftones came to town."
