Choose Confusion

She's on the phone with more bad news,
another case of deadline blues:
the nervous ones feel all the strain
while others sit back, relax and cruise.
'I have to study each refrain,
after every one I'm more confused.'
'A break,' I say, 'then start again.
The mind shuts down if it's abused.'
'A break?' She screams. 'Are you insane?
My psycho tutor won't be amused.'
I sigh. 'You'll overwork your brain,
so watch a film or take a snooze.'
Once again my words are all in vain,
he says it's nothing she can choose.
The receiver clicks, she starts again,
an essay failed is an ego bruised.
