When I was twelve I learned German at school,
a snappy language with edges to cut deep.
'Ich bin ein auslander.' But I was in England,
far, far away from that warped tongue.
Tenses and plurals, misplaced words and
Contradictions took their places.
'Ich habe zwolf jahre alt.' That's bullshit.
I don't have, I am (I was) twelve years old.
But, funnily, that's all that stuck in my head:
I have twelve years and I am twelve years old.
Either way I suppose it works for me,
A twelve year old boy with twelve years left.
