A telephone rings and we look and shake and nod
and glance and feel our pockets and grin
and then somebody answers and goes out of the room
and talks to whoever it is and comes back in
and we hear - beep beep beep - so we all check
and someone's got a message, so they proudly show us
and then we're back to watching telly and chatting
and just doing things and then it rings.
