GOLDY THE STORYTELLER - I
Goldy Monkey was one of the oldest and senior most members in TOON MOON
JUNGLE. He had grown very old. His limbs had become very weak and he
could no longer jump about from tree to tree or from branch to branch
and explore the jungle at his own sweet will. But he as very hopeful
with his life, for he knew that at this age also he could help the
jungle animals with his matured wits.
How could he forget that glorious past of his. He had been pranky, fun
loving, frolicsome and always full of mischief in his immature years.
With responsibilities burdened on his shoulders, he had lived a very
matured and useful life and his working life had ripened and had now
placed him in this position. Physically he was not very fit but his
brain was still very active and worked like an ignite and not as a
dying flame.
Goldy had been a responsible advisor in King Sheru's court. Sheru, the
Lion King, had sought his advice from time to time, and at very
difficult times also. Very few members of the jungle did know that
Goldy Monkey had once headed the Secret Services of the King. Many a
times he had saved the boundaries of TOON MOON JUNGLE from invasion.
Now Goldy led a retired life. He would be found basking in the morning
sun to warm his old body and gain vigour. He now spent a lot of time in
sleeping and resting. Apart from all this, he gave a part of his time,
to those, who came to listen to his stories, some of which were real
ones. When he was the storyteller, he held his listeners spellbound.
His narration was so perfect and interesting. So, in his old age, Goldy
came to be known as 'The Storyteller'. But still, some senior members
of the jungle called him 'Oldy Goldy', a favourite name among his
friends.
"Hey Oldy Goldy, I find that you have become so familiar and well known
among the jungle animals, specially the younger lot. They call you 'The
Storyteller'. You must be really enjoying life again in this new
position of yours", said his friend Burly Bear with a smile on his
face.
"But still you have years to give to the King. So, after you retire,
come and join me. You will start enjoying life again. We can then start
with 'The Oldy Goldy Cultural Society'. Together we will give the
remaining years of our life, to our future generations. Hope you will
not shy away when the time comes", said Goldy jokingly.
Burly Bear gave a smile and Goldy tapped him on his back, and Burly
went his way.
Still in this old age Goldy seemed so jolly, always cracking jokes and
trying his best to make others laugh and be merry.
One evening Goldy was sitting outside his house and talking with some
of the animals who had come to chat with him. It was then that Surly
Owl was passing by Goldy's house. Suddenly he stopped short to hear
them. He found Goldy speaking about his past experiences and also
narrating some fact related stories. After sometime Surly said,
"Grandpa Goldy, I heard from my grandpa Wisy Owl that you had earlier
headed the Secret Services of our Jungle. You must be knowing so many
secrets. But by seeing you, no one can believe that you had headed such
a sensitive and responsible post".
"EH! Wisy Owl is being childish by saying all these things to you young
one", spoke Goldy with a mark of irritation in his delivery.
Goldy continued talking. His conversation was mainly on topics relating
to the lives of the jungle people. Suddenly a courtier from the King's
court presented himself before Goldy and said, "Sire Goldy, the King
wants you to be present before him, immediately. He said that there was
an emergency. Make haste and accompany me for I have got conveyance for
you".
On hearing these words from the courtier, Goldy was puzzled for a
while. He told those sitting around him, to disperse, for an urgency
called him to go to the King's court. He got ready very quickly, and
before leaving, he told the small gathering, "Children, me, your
Storyteller has to leave now for the sake of urgency. But more stories
the next time. Bye". So saying Goldy left for the King's palace with
the courtier.
All the youngsters shouted out, "Bye Storyteller, we will come again
for your interesting stories. Bye, bye, bye, ---------------- with this
echo they parted.
