DIARY PAGE - 20 AUGUST 2002
August 20, 2002, Tuesday.
On this earth Nature has got its own laws. With the rise of the sun in
the eastern sky, the day begins and when the sun goes down into the
western sky, night falls. Like everyday today also my eyes opened to
see daylight flushing into my room. Said my prayers in bed and then
darted off to complete my day's work. The whole day - huh!
A day earlier I had chalked out today's programme. So I jumped into
activity with the word 'GO'.
Had invited a friend for lunch. She was moving into another city, only
memories to fondle with one another after she left.
Yesterday had prepared some dishes and kept them in the refrigerator.
The favourites ones I cooked today.
My friend turned up early, time enough for both of us to talk to our
hearts content, for we know not when we will meet again.
She enjoyed the lunch and me too.
She gave me a beautiful gift as fond remembrance. I also parted with my
small token of love and remembrance. Tears flowed as though the
floodgates had broken - from both sides.
The evening occupied me with my teaching class. Tidily and smartly I
sat down to take the class.
Very dissatisfied with the work the students submitted, two of them
miserable in their work. I spoke to them very rudely saying, "You both,
you seem to throw words on the lines of your exercise book and want the
words to work by themselves, combine and complete, on their own into
something meaningful. Ultimately the whole thing has ended up into
utter nonsense. You will make me mad in no time. Next time, better
work, understood. Hm!"
I don't know why I was so harsh to them.
Went out for shopping. While returning the sky began to pour heavily,
suddenly started raining cats and dogs. I was on my scooter and got
fully drenched. Took shelter under the shed of a roadside florist's
cabin. But what! A leaking roof equal to standing out under the pouring
sky.
I remember, when I was young, and the first showers came, my brother,
my sister and I would run out to get wet in the rain, cooling our
bodies from the persisting heat that was prevailing earlier. My mother
used to say that the water of the first shower was very good for
getting free from prickly heats. She would also drench herself in the
first rains to get rid of her prickly heats. Today I am very happy to
get wet in the rain. I felt I met my childhood again. Miss my
mother.
From under the florist's shelter place (leaking roof) I moved away to a
better place. Waited for the rain to stop but it did not.
As it was getting late, came home while it was still raining.
After so many years I saw a glimpse of my childhood for a little while
but what nostalgia it gave me.
Hot dinner was served while the T.V. blurted on.
Spent some time in reading and writing.
Just before going to bed I thought about the whole day's activities and
smiled a bit. This day was a mixed bag for me, a reappearance of the
past in the present. Enjoyed the day.
With prayers went to bed for a good night's sleep.
