It is a great day for the Taj Mahal. Standing on the banks of river
Yamuna in the city of Agra the Taj Mahal is proudly celebrating the
350th birthday. People flock in thousands everyday to see this Wonder
of the world. I was amazed when I saw it for the first time. Built of
white marble with colourful designs on the walls against the backdrop
of the white - it's a masterpiece attracting people from all over the
world. I was there in Agra last October to see this beautiful mausoleum
though I have seen
it many times.
I still remember the day ? 35 years back, I was in school. Our teacher
Miss Reddy asked us to write a poem on the Taj Mahal ? it was most
probably the third poem, just a beginner in writing. Want to post it;
this poem is as it was when I wrote it yeeeeeeears back. Some of you
must have read it on another site.
Miss Reddy, she was the darling of our school. She had joined the
school with two other Anglo Indian teachers coming all the way from
Mangalore. How can I forget Miss Reddy ? beautiful eyes and I liked her
long black hair flowing down her back but her complexion was dark. She
wore beautiful sarees. After two years she got married and went abroad.
We missed her and ? the farewell party, tears and hugs. Lovely school
days.
THE TAJ MAHAL
This is the monument,
Made of white marble,
Stands out in this world;
Some call it 'The Eight Wonder of the World'.
The city of Agra has got it,
As a prized possession of India,
On the banks of the river Yamuna,
Stands this spectacular grandeur.
The Taj Mahal,
Stands in 'All White' magnificence,
In remembrance of the true love
Of Emperor Shah Jahan for his wife Mumtaz Mahal.
Mumtaz Mahal is remembered here,
So also their eternal love,
All shown together,
In this beautiful marble architectural work.
So many hands have worked on it,
So much of work done,
The neatness in this finished work
Shows the skill and effort that has been put in.
Men in thousands have worked on 'It',
For twenty long years,
To bring before the eyes of men,
A Wonder of the world.
So many years of heat and sun,
Rain and winter it has stood,
But still now 'It' stands as if,
It is a recent work.
The Taj Mahal is at its best,
On full moon nights,
In the eyes of men,
Is something words fail to express.
People from far and wide
Come from all over the world,
To see this unique masterpiece,
Created in this world.
The Taj Mahal is remembered
By all who come and see
And even by those
Who read about 'It'.
This unique wonder piece of architect
'Wonders' the human mind,
And when you see the Taj Mahal,
You also see the 'eternal love' buried in the tomb.
The Taj needs a lot of attention and care.
This is going to be a busy week for me. With the pressure of work I am
tired and exhausted. Enjoyed my weekend.
The morning sun has pumped in vigour and I am all set for a busy week
ahead. There is pleasantness in the air; the days are no longer as hot
as it used to be a few days earlier and the nights ? cool and
pleasing.
