Crucifix Eyes

I stared at the man
With my guitar in hand
A beast in crimson red
And as heavy as lead
He looked at me with his crucifix eyes
A look which I know I despise
What did he want from me
How was he to get it
And why was he staring at my flies
Pet flies, that is, from my horse named Jo
Now this strange feeling started to grow
Inside me the anger oppressed arose
The man mumbled in fits and throws
So, there's me, confused and bewildered
In front of a man who mumbled and shivered
Just walk past him I thought, no worries
Make it quick, don't dawdle, do hurry
At that point the words became clear
And down my back went a shiver of fear
He knew my name and where i was going
He told me of my fate that I knew was coming
I won't give details but I saw my own death
Pictured in my head and heard on his breath
So, at his head, with my guitar I swung
And without turning back I started to run
Without looking back I ran like the wind
The emotion and adrenalin was making me grin
How far away was the stranger in black
How far away was his knife to my back
Sweat poured down my neck and face
My eyes started to burn and I continued to race
Straining my ears for a hint of my pursuer
I could feel his breath getting nearer and nearer
How long could I keep up this speed
My legs were burning, not to mention my feet
Was the heartbeat in my ears his or mine
Was this all there is, is this my time
No fear, i must face the things that scare me
But turning around now makes me very wary
Of what will happen as soon as i turn
Is it to be that in hell i will burn
I found my legs slowing, can't run anymore
I look down as the dust settles to the floor
And to my amazement all about is silence
Without any hint of death or violence
What was going on this world, in my mind
Is there anyone here that's of my own kind
Strangers chasing with the intent to kill
Atmosphere red, the planet is ill
Open your mind to the closed doors around
Realise they aren't there and real life is found
That's what happened to me on that day
Guitar in hand I smiled and walked away
