Discounted Lives

Wandering down the street
I see the people that I meet
With their faces turned away
I see the pain that they display
The smiles covered by frowns
In their problems they all drown
And I see their hopes are frayed
Like a cloud, with them everyday
There's got to be a way to make them lift their heads
To make them see the stars
And to wonder who they are
There's got to be a way to make them all see sense
To make them use their heads
And to get them off the fence
No words can I say to you
When your life turns the colour blue
We cope with discounted lives
But never stop to ask ourselves why
All the money spins the world
And different classes we unfurl
But if we put it into one pot
Then three worlds we haven't got
There's got to be a way to make them lift their heads
To make them see the stars
And to wonder who they are
There's got to be a way to make them all see sense
To make them use their heads
And to get them off the fence
Now the whole world's coloured blue
And what are we supposed to do
Do we plough on, ignore the truth
Or wake up to a world less cruel
Individuals are the way
To progress our lives today
The blue will pale and fade
A new life then will prevail
