Chapter 1
I couldn’t believe that after five years Damien finally proposed to me, it’s a dream come true. I’m going to be Mrs. Valentine in two days, I have never been so happy in my entire life. As soon as I get home I’m going to start cooking dinner for Damien and I, we’re going to a very quiet and peaceful evening. After today we aren’t going to be able to see each other until Saturday when we get ready to say our vows to each other. I had just come from the grocery store getting food for the beautiful evening I planned on having later on tonight. But little did I know this day was going to be a huge disaster. I walked into my apartment, “Damien I’m home.” I didn’t see him on the couch watching TV where he usually is. I walked down the hall heading to our bedroom calling his name, “Damien, Damien are you in here?” I paused to see if he would answer me, When I got to the door I heard slight moaning…..from woman. I opened the door to see the most hurtful thing in my whole life. There in my bed was my best friend and my fiancé studying each other body. They must have really been enjoying themselves because they didn’t even glance my way when I opened the door; they didn’t look at me until I threw my 3 ½ inch shoe at his head.
“G…Giselle… it’s not what it looks like.” Damien was the first to speak in the midst of the awkward silence that was going on between the three of us.
“Then what the hell is it supposed to be?” I was livid. I probably should have acted a fool on him but I was too shocked and hurt all I could do was stand in that same spot and yell.
“Giselle…let me.” Whitney my now ex-best friend now tried to speak. But I cut her off before she had a chance to say anything. I pointed to her.
“You can get the hell out of my house, right now.”
“But Giselle.” Apparently she didn’t understand the concept of what I said before.
“Get the hell out Whitney; I don’t want to hear anything you have to say.” I was completely furious now. I couldn’t control my anger or my yelling. She started scurrying around the room picking up her clothes, I watched her every move. I seemed as if I was afraid that if I looked away she wouldn’t hesitate to jump right back in the bed with Damien. Before she passed me I gave her the nastiest glare I could muster and she gave me an apologetic look in return. But she wasn’t forgiven. When I heard the front door shut I looked at Damien with the same glare I gave Whitney, at the point of time I wished that the term ‘if looks could kill’ were true because he would seriously be dead. I guess my stare was too strong because he looked away.
“What were you thinking, how could you do something like this to me, what could I have possibly done to make you do something like this to me?” he still wouldn’t look at me. So I walked up to him and yanked his face towards me.
“Look at me when I’m talking to you Damien, or are you just too big of coward to look me in my eyes when I’m talking to you, is it that hard for you, how long has this been going on…answer me Damien.” My tone had gotten a little louder.
“I don’t know…two years.” He finally looked at me and when he did he looked like he was going to cry.
“You don’t know? … What the fuck do you mean you don’t know?” Damien and put on the pants that I’m guessing was the pair he took off a when he was engaging in the act of cheating on me. When he was done he just looked at me with this blank stare, it wasn’t saying anything, and he didn’t either.
“I can’t believe I’m doing this, I’m not going to keep on standing here and yell at you so I’m just going to leave.” Just when I was about to walk out the door I remembered something, I turned around and went back to the room.
“I almost forgot to tell you that I’m pregnant.” I looked at him and waited for an answer.
“Good Luck. I hope the child has a wonderful life.” I turned around and ran out the house in tears. I can’t believe him this child is just as much his as it is mine and all he could tell me was good luck, that inconsiderate jackass. I was with that man through thick and thin for five years and through all the blood sweat and tears all he could was good luck. Son of a bitch. I got in my car and started driving around just thinking and reflecting. Thinking about why all of this turmoil and chaos had to happen to me, why didn’t I see him for who he was before? Then I stared reflecting on the future hoping and praying to God that nothing like this will happen to me again. I am carrying the child of a man that has broken my heart so much I don’t even know if it can be put back together again. I drove around for at least 45 minutes before I stopped and ended up in the parking lot of the movie theater. I got into the movie theater and paid to see a movie called ‘For a Second Time’. When the movie was over I drove to my friend Stacie’s house, I really needed someone to talk to.
I went up the stairs to ring her door bell to the two story house. Stacy’s was a single woman and ‘lovin it’ as she says. She says that it’s better to be alone than to be dealing with a bunch of simply impossible testosterone.
“Who is it?” Stacy’s voice replied through the speaker.
“It’s me. Giselle.” I answered back.
She opened the door with the biggest smile I had ever seen one her face.
“It’s been so long since you’ve come over her to see me.” I stepped in to the house and she walked me towards the dining room.
“Have a seat.” I did as I was told and sat diagonally from her.
“So is the bride-to-be how’s life been treating you?” She looked at me questioningly; I tried to say something but the only thing that came out was me choking on my tears. I just started to cry, I couldn’t hold it anymore. Stacy reached across the table and started rubbing my hand.
“Oh Giselle sweetheart tell me what’s wrong?”
“The wedding is off; Damien has been cheating on me with Whitney.” I started trying to gain my composure.
“Well how do you know?”
“I caught them…today…in my bed.”
“Oh my God girl I am so sorry, he didn’t deserve your love anyway.”
“I feel so stupid…this has been going on for two years…WHY THE HELL DIDN’T I SEE IT?”
“Calm down and just breathe honey.” Stacy said trying to soothe me.
“I’m sorry I don’t mean to yell I just…I just don’t know what to do with myself, what am I supposed to tell my family all of his family that has already flown here to see us be joined together in ‘holy matrimony’.”
“You’ll just have to call everyone and tell them there’s nothing else you can do; it’s not your fault, I’ll help you if you want.”
“Thank you, I think we should start now.”
I got on my cell phone and Stacy got on her house phone and everyone was a little disappointed and Damien’s family from out of town wondered why we didn’t tell them this before they flew all the way out here wasting their money, all I could do was apologize for the inconvenience. The last person I called was Damien’s mother. She picked up the phone on the third ring
“Is that my soon to be favorite daughter in law?” she said in an overly cheerful voice.
“Hi Margaret, yes it’s me….umm…how have you been?” I figured I’d give a little small talk before I broke the news.”
“Well I am just so excited to know that you guys wedding is only two days away, it is about time that boy started settling down, I don’t know what he would have done without someone as caring and loving as you are… he couldn’t have picked a better bride.”
“Oh sweetheart what’s the matter?”
“The wedding is off Margaret …I caught Damien cheating on me with my best friend.”
“Oh Lord Jesus I thought that boy had gotten over his lying cheating ways…baby I am so sorry.”
“Don’t worry about it, it’s not your fault….I’m glad I met Damien because he gave me a beautiful gift out of this whole experience.”
“What’s that?”
“I’m pregnant…”
“What did he say about that?” I wonder what she’s going to think when I tell her what he said.
“Hello are you there Giselle?”
“I’m here.”
“Well….What did he say?”
“He said he didn’t want it.”
“Well that’s okay, that no good son of mine didn’t deserve you anyway, if you need anything at all just let me know…I’ll babysit for you and everything. You don’t need him just give that baby all of your love and you’ll be just fine.”
“Thank you Margaret.”
“Sweetie…where are you going to stay…you moved out of you apartment to move in with him.”
“I never really thought about that, I didn’t think of that until you said something.”
“Well you can stay here with me, you’re going to need someone with experience to support you throughout this pregnancy, and I am just the woman for the job.”
“I don’t want to intrude.”
“Don’t worry about it, it would be my pleasure. Now I’m going to round up Damien’s sisters and tomorrow we’re going to get your stuff out of his house and into mine, how do that sound.”
“I’ really appreciate this, thank you so much Margaret.”
“Call me Momma, you’re like a daughter to me, well I got to go Greg gets real pesky if he doesn’t eat on time so I’ll see you tomorrow.”
“Yes you will bah-bye.”
“See you tomorrow sugar.”
