Dad
Families are the backdrop to life,
when Jean's boyfriend pilled on the pressure it was her mothers
remark,-
If he's only after one thing he doesn't love You
she acted because of it.
But like a gap in the wallpaper,
it draws your attention to its absence,
the familiar echoes of pattern,
sun bleached to the wall,
a constant reminder
But then it seemed I got you back
you explained it all so clear,
You had to leave
and it was with the tears I had long cried
and the tears you showed me
I nailed it back to the wall,
knowing you were not conventional
couldn't be held with conventional paste
I thought I had you back
Until about a year later
when the paper came loose
your tears had dried and mine could not hold you
and as I tell Jean she did the "right thing"
"we can't let them walk all over us"
Men!
And I remember I was not the only one he left
someone else hurt far more
her tears couldn't hold him either.
