Day One
I remember arriving at the school gates. I didn't know a soul there.
They all seemed so big, so scary. I was scared. I saw her standing
there with her friends. Monica, Denise and Terri. She didn't notice me
but I noticed her. I just stood watching her for over an hour, just
looking at her. Then a stern teacher came over and severly shook
me.
"Are you Callum Waters?" She asked, I nodded and she led me into the
school. When inside the school she took me through a maze of corridors
and doors. Finally she opened a door and took me in. A young blonde
woman was sitting on her desk leaning slightly forward. She was
pretty.
"Miss Upton, this is Callum Waters, he's new." Miss Upton nodded to the
stern teacher and she left. Miss Upton held my shoulders.
"As you heard everybody this is Callum. Please make him feel welcome.
Where can he sit?" She looked around the classroom. "Robert, come here.
Do me a favour, get me another desk and chair from the supplies
cupboard." Robert left. "Callum, you can go and sit down next to
Christie." I was shown to my seat. I was sat next to another blonde
girl. She was pretty. I sat down. Jules looked at me. I smiled at her.
She returned it. When Robert came back Jules quickly turned around. As
I looked around the classroom, lots of girls were looking at me. What
was so special? So important? I'm just me. Stop looking at me!
Christie's hand then slipped onto my knee and I realised. They all
'liked' me. I was taken aback. In my old school I was a geek. I was the
person you were condemmed if you liked.
At break, Christie took it upon herself to show me around.
She kept touching me. I looked at her. After finding a seat, I turned
and faced her.
"Christie, do you 'like' me?"
"Course. Do you like me?" I thought about it. I did like her. She was
very pretty.
"Yes. I do."
"Do you fancy? erm? going on a date sometime?" She looked at me with
those big sparkeling eyes of hers. I nodded.
"Where too?"
"There's that new diner in town. Say, Thursday 7:30." Nodding, I
smiled. A date, a proper date with a very pretty girl. I smiled to
myself.
But that date didn't go as I had expected?
