The Lovers and the Sniper
---------------------------------
Did he ever walk a sweetheart
In the mid-day sunshine?
Their love was fresh-it flowed
To the brim, humanely wholesome
It surpassed the barrier with it,s potency
And bound a Serb and a Moslem
But now it has ended forever
They lie in No Human,s Land
Callously annulled in a second,s clench
Of a heartless sniper,s hand
Did he ever feel the warmth of another
In the chill of morning?
Did he ever sit up all night
Just to see the dawning?
Did he ever give his coat to her
And shiver in the snow?
Static in their week worn clothes
Blood red shrouds of denim
Statuesque, ethnically cleansed testimony
To the depths of a nation,s venom
Now they are together,entwined
In an eternal embrace
Another notch on the sniper,s gun
They never saw his face
Did he ever whisper sweet nothings
In the giggle of talking nonsense?
Did he ever kis his mother,s lips
Did he have a conscience?:
