Movie Memories
---------------------
One thing I have to thank my father for is my deep abiding love of
cinema. My dad used to collect me after school in the sixties when I was
pre-teenage and he would take me to see the latest film.Sometimes a
James Bond or a Charlton Heston epic.I loved the feeling, the
anticipation in the classroom waiting for the bell to ring and I,d be
off like a shot. But the first movie my dad took me to see was Zulu and
I had nightmares that night.I don,t remember it but my parents swear to
this day that I got up in the middle of the night and ran about the
living room shouting that the Zulus were after me.In calmer times we
saw all the Sean Connery Bond movies. He was the best bar none.My dad
would buy me sweets outside the cinema as they were expensive inside.I
ate packets of Poppets and Spangles but when the ice-cream woman came
round my dad played a deaf ear to my asking for an ice lolly.I have
become a walking anorak on sixties and seventies films.Videos are
alright but there is nothing to beat the dark claustrophobic atmosphere
of cinema and I now can do a passable impression of Sean
Connery.Shurely you can,t be sherious Blofeld?Good memories:
