My Old Granny

No one knew her exact age
She was ageless
An old woman when I was young
And visited her and my grandpa
A couple surrounded by photos and holy trinkets
Never been rich, always a struggle
But a warm home
I sat on the stool at the roaring fire
Drinking dandelion and burdock pop
Eating home made treacle
Pulling out fillings
She never had a fridge
Just a cold cool pantry where she kept
Bottles of American cream soda and limeade
What a choice
I watched her making tablet and shortbread
Magic with ginger wine at Ne,erday
But she got older and I grew away
Less frequent visits
I always thought of her
She went senile
Making mince and tatties at three in the morning
For my long dead grandpa
From child to adult to child
In the Nazareth House
Mass everyday, would she reach a hundred?
But she passed away
Just a wee wummin frae Maybole
A Campbell
I miss her and the sweets and the cold cool pantry
