Brian had a lifelong interest in literature but was never a great
poetry reader(education in the forties and fifties did
not develop a boy's literary feelings beyond that needed for exams)
until becoming a committed christian in 1987.This event proved to be
the stimulus whereby Brian was "freed" to explore all aspects of his
intellectual and emotional makeup.
On a hot summer's day in 1995 whist out of work for a second time in
the nineties he was inspired to compose a poem that evolved from
Brian's interest in words derived from a lifetime interest of
leisure-time of book reading. The poem revolved around words commencing
with the letter C with a spiritual basis inspired by his christian
faith.
It was not until the Autumn of 2000 that Brian wrote more poetry partly
inspired by an internet
site aimed at older folk Brian's first poem prompted him to write a
further four "word" poems commencing with the letter C to form a pentad
collection .
He published one of the poems on this website and found out from a
comment about his poem that his style of writing was known as "streams
of consciousness".The continuous thoughts and feelings both vague and
well defined that forms an individual's conscioius experience.
Early in 2001 Brian discovered abctales and this co-incided with the
start of a period of creative poetry that seemed to proliferate from
within on a wide variety of topics all in the creative consciousness
style.Encouraged by the abctales site Brian's poetry has flowered and
publishes under his pen-name "ichthys" and now forms an
important outlet of his creative being.
Like many folk a case of being a poet within and not knowing it
fulfilling an inner need and hopefully being an encouragement to
others.!
