Original Thought

As shadows of age start to delicately fall
Merely lichen gathering on lime washed walls
I'm given to dwell on this foray through life
Will a soul often fail against mortal despite?
A Micawber true, ready and keen
Hoping to vent original spleen
We are slow; it seems, this nettle to grasp
A cerebral aspect from nature hatched
For Darwin inspired set the context in train
How daring bright genes are ones that remain
The innovatory beasts are most often remembered
The ones in their wake are quickly dismembered
For horror is hidden on our well trodden angles
Through form and by stricture, the muse can be strangled
Ideas and dreams will definitely stall
If slavishly cast to Academia's wall
Hard progression is piled in the temple of knowledge
To allow a provender for our own honest forage
Gold is not formed on alchemic proclivity
Even pearls cast on swines demand ingenuity
