TALIESIN - The lay of the Cosmic Minstrel.

The bright notes spring from the strings of silver;
Wild words fall through time and space;
And I will sing to this blue world's ending
The songs I sang when the Earth was made.
I played my harp at the court of Arthur;
Charmed dark Merlin with my gaze;
I was the Muse in the soul of Sappho -
All of the lyrics of her lays.
I played my music to Egypt's Pharaoh,
And it made his hard heart yield.
Mine were the war-songs of the chieftains
Slain on cold Culloden's field.
Mine the voice in the ancient temple
Calling tears forth from the stone;
For who could tell such joy or sorrow
But the minstrel's lyre alone?
And I am singing here before you
As men have walked upon the Moon;
Though words will live or die forever,
Why do you turn away so soon?
Lofty ballads of Valhalla,
Tales of heroes never die;
Men among the stars free-falling -
I'll sing their sagas of the sky.
What care I if you will not listen?
What care I if no ear will hear?
Alone, I feel the Heavens singing
Though Earth be but a silent sphere.
The bright notes spring from the strings of silver;
Wild words fall through time and space;
And I will sing to this blue world's ending
The songs I sang when the Earth was made.
