How fast things become familiar
It doesn't seem long since I cane
Yet the sights that were once so different
Nowadays seem all the same
The same old rows of houses
The same old boring books
The same old rooms and buildings
The same old friendly looks
How fast things become a memory
It won't be long till I go
And the sights that are now so familiar
Will be sights I once used to know
This was written whilst sitting outside Bristol Polytechnic (now the
University of the West of England) waiting for my last lecture to
start. I looked around and realised how the surroundings and people had
become part of my life after only two years and that in a matter of
weeks I was going to leave and they would no longer be part of my daily
routine. It made me realise that we tend to take the everyday things
around us for granted and only appreciate them when they're
