Anniversaries (April 5)

The body remembers, even
if you think you're over it, the body
stores those feelings up and like a time release
sends them out, spot on
a year or two or ten to the day.

You are always ill in the run up. The weeks
before. Nothing you can put a finger on
low, coldy, a bit depressed. You never
remember it's that time of year
pass it off as the turn of the season
Autumn giving out to Winter.

Then realise, here the date
death, funeral, wake. You make
a bargain with yourself
